Reducing acne scars

Smooth skin with hyaluronic acid

Treating acne scars with a hyaluronic acid filler is still relatively unknown at the moment. However, the results are amazing. Hyaluronic acid improves the skin structure and corrects deep and superficial (acne) scars. This is because hyaluronic acid retains water, and water provides extra volume.
All kinds of imperfections, such as pits and dents, are filled during a treatment with hyaluronic acid and thus hydrated at the same time. This results in fine, supple, and more elastic skin.

Treating acne scars

Both deep and superficial scars can be treated this way. The risks of filling acne scars with a filler are very minimal.
Acne scars distinguish themselves from other types of scars by craters or dents in the skin. A filler based on
hyaluronic acid fills the skin from the inside out so that after the acne scar treatment, it has roughly the same volume as the skin surrounding the scar. After treating the acne scars, they are much less visible. Scars in the form of dark or red spots (hyperpigmentation) and scars with tissue increase cannot be treated with a hyaluronic acid filler treatment. Facial scars involving loss of tissue are generally very well-suited for treatment.

The process of the hyaluronic acid filler treatment

  1. Before the treatment

Together with the doctor, you will mark the scars you would like to have treated. The treatment consists of a few small injections per scar. A second treatment may be necessary for optimal results.
For an acne scar filling treatment, it is advisable to take Arnica drops five days before the treatment.

  2. After the treatment

After the treatment, use a daily sunblock with a good SPF and avoid the sun (and tanning beds). Our doctors advise not to undergo any invasive facial treatments at a beautician in the first two weeks. Please note: sauna visits are also discouraged for the first three days after the treatment. We look forward to seeing you back after four weeks for a second treatment.

  3. Recovery time

Depending on your skin type, swelling, redness, and bruising may occur after treating scars on your face. One day after the treatment, you can safely camouflage any bruises.

  4. Result duration

The hyaluronic acid fillers our doctors use for this treatment are gradually broken down (by the body itself) in about 12 months. Because every body is different, the duration of this process can vary per person.

Safety

Hyaluronic acid is one of the building blocks of the skin. It ensures better hydration and elasticity of the skin. The body recognizes hyaluronic acid, making the chance of an allergic or foreign body reaction to a hyaluronic acid filler extremely small. If a small accumulation or asymmetry has developed in the face after the treatment, you don’t need to worry. This can often be massaged away easily. Furthermore, hyaluronic acid is the only filler that can be actively dissolved. We provide you with a customized result and can dissolve any excess filler with Hyason if necessary.

The doctors at Dikrama Clinics are BIG registered (members of the NVDV, NVCD, and NHG) and only use wrinkle fillers from genuine premium brands.

Safety is one of the most important criteria we use to select our wrinkle fillers. The brands Dikrama Clinics treats with have been on the market for decades, and 5-40 million treatments have already been performed with these brands. These large numbers indicate that the chance of unexpected complications is very small. Additionally, Petra Dikrama has experience treating filler complications at the filler complication clinic at Erasmus MC.

Acne scars can be treated very well with fillers. You can also discuss other options with the doctor during a free intake consultation. Acne is annoying enough on its own, but usually, you’re stuck with the consequences years later. The doctors at Dikrama Clinics can reduce the visible consequences (scars).

Scars are various skin disruptions. There are two different types of acne scars. We distinguish between scars with tissue increase and scars with loss of tissue. Especially the scars with loss of tissue are very well-suited for treatment with (hyaluronic acid) fillers. This is because the most important property of hyaluronic acid is that it retains water. As a result, the product contributes to the resilience of the skin!

That’s right! But hyaluronic acid is excellent for treating acne scars.

The right treatment for your face depends on the size and depth of the scars. Treating acne scars can sometimes be quite intensive, and there is a recovery period of about seven days.

By placing a hyaluronic acid filler in the scars, all imperfections are filled. At the same time, the skin is hydrated: this ensures a beautiful result. The risks of this treatment are minimal, but you should still take into account small bruises, swelling, or a tender feeling.
