Teeth grinding
Relaxed jaws
Teeth grinding is a result of increased muscle tension in the jaw muscle. This overactivity can be caused by stressful situations, but can also be constantly present without being noticed. This can result in pain or cramping of the jaw muscle, which can also radiate to the neck muscles. You might be able to correct this during the day, but unfortunately not at night. It is almost always possible to counter teeth grinding with a Botox (Botulinum Toxin) treatment.
By injecting Botox into the jaw muscle, the muscle will (partially) relax. This reduces muscle tension, stops the teeth grinding, and eliminates the cramping and pain in the affected muscle.
Because Botox (partially) relaxes the jaw muscle, this muscle will also decrease in size after a few weeks. This results in a narrowing of the jawline, which can be a nice aesthetic side effect.

A natural result
At Dikrama Clinics, we stand for a natural result. The overly tightened faces in the media and glossy magazines are not a reflection of our clientele. The doctors at Dikrama Clinics take a close look at all your wishes and possibilities before giving personal advice that fits the natural features of your face. We prefer to start with one zone of Botox to let you calmly get used to the effect before treating multiple zones, if desired. “Less is more” is our motto.

Safety
Botulinum Toxin or Botox is an extremely safe medicine. Botulinum Toxin falls under the Medicines Act; years of research were conducted into its effectiveness, side effects, and complications before the product was admitted to the market. Botox has been used in the medical world for over forty years, for example, to treat muscle spasms. Furthermore, the doctors at Dikrama Clinics have years of experience using this product and will always inject it in the correct way and in the right amount.

Frequently asked questions
No, we only treat the overactive muscles and not the muscles you actually really need. You will notice that your face feels more relaxed and looks calmer.
Because Botox (partially) relaxes the jaw muscle, it also gradually decreases in size. This will cause the wide jaw angles to shrink, giving the face a beautiful V-line again.
On the contrary! Because the overactivity of the jaw muscles that causes teeth grinding decreases due to a Botox treatment, the grinding stops. In many cases, the results can last longer and longer by repeating the treatment regularly. This is because the muscles ‘unlearn’ how to constantly tense up.
In principle, teeth grinding will decrease or disappear for everyone. There are, of course, exceptions; a small percentage of people who undergo a Botox treatment break down the Botox quickly.
This can vary per person. On average, the treatment should be repeated three times in the first year. Subsequently, the result can last longer and longer, meaning it may need to be repeated two to three times a year.
The jaw muscle is a fairly isolated muscle, making the chance of complications extremely small.
In exceptional cases, asymmetry can occur in the face because other surrounding muscles relax due to the Botox. This is, of course, temporary.
Furthermore, muscle strength in the jaw may decrease, which can be experienced as bothersome. The dosage can be adjusted for this in any follow-up treatment.
